The Musicology of Record Production Website
The musicology of record production website is being created using funding from the HEFCE Research in Teaching Environment (RiTE) initiative by Simon Zagorski-Thomas of the London College of Music, TVU.
The purpose of the project is to create a public, on-line research resource on the Musicology of Record Production which will fulfil five separate objectives:
- Help to create a framework for research in the emerging subject area of record production.
- Create a public, open access research resource on record production that also provides a platform for contributions and discussion by industry professionals, academics, students and other interested parties.
- Embed this framework as the basis for student research (pure and practice led) in the MA in Record Production (and other courses in the music technology and music subject area at LCM) and provide a forum for publication.
- Incorporate the study of existing research, the contextualisation of new and existing practice within the musicology of record production and inquiry based learning (through project and dissertation work) into all music technology postgraduate courses and the third year of the BA programmes.
- Encourage the development of a robust research culture among staff in this subject area at London College of Music (LCM) / TVU.
- Establish and consolidate the position of LCM as the leading institution in this subject area.
Aims
The primary aim of the project is to define and quantify a broad series of approaches that characterise research and pedagogy in the record production subject area. These will then be used to inform the structure of an on-line research resource which will provide a framework for students and staff in the music technology subject area to publish and disseminate their pure and practice led research. Examples of professional and student practice will also be used to illustrate theoretical principles.
